Lyft operates a ridesharing network in the United States and Canada, connecting drivers with riders. In addition, the San Francisco-based company operates Express Drive, a car rental program; Lyft Rentals, which provides vehicles for long-distance trips; and a network of bikes and scooters in various cities. The company was founded in 2012 and was formerly known as Zimride before it changed its name to Lyft in 2013.[1]
In 2020 the company reported revenue of US$2.4 billion, down 35% from US$3.6 billion in 2019, as COVID-19 caused a dip in ridership.[2] The company's ticker symbol is LYFT on the NASDAQ.
