GER30 Hits Record High as Global Giants Outrun Germany’s Economy
GER30's record high says more about the global reach of its companies than the health of Germany's economy. Only about one-fifth of constituent sales are generated at home, while the government expects domestic growth of just 0.5% in 2026.
Recent market leadership has come particularly from industrial, defence and energy-infrastructure shares, with Siemens Energy benefiting from record demand for power-generation and grid equipment, while Rheinmetall remains tied to Europe's long-term rearmament programme. Financial shares have also participated in periods of recent strength.
The latest push has been helped by company-specific earnings surprises, including Bayer's unexpected profit increase and Deutsche Telekom's decision to expand its 2026 share buyback to €5 billion. Supporting the broader mood, expected second-quarter earnings growth for STOXX 600 companies has risen to nearly 21%, while hopes of progress in the US-Iran conflict have eased some immediate anxiety over oil supplies.
The result is an unusual but understandable picture. Germany's economy remains subdued, but the globally exposed industrial and corporate giants inside its benchmark are finding stronger growth elsewhere.

The GER30 remains technically bullish after breaking above 26,000 and advancing to a fresh all-time high near 26,450, with price comfortably above two rising moving averages and the sequence of higher highs and higher lows intact. The rally is beginning to look stretched, however, as the RSI briefly pushed above 80 before turning lower, showing that momentum is cooling from extremely overbought levels without yet confirming a reversal. Holding the 26,000-26,100 area would preserve the breakout and leave 26,400-26,500 vulnerable to another challenge, while a close beneath it could invite a deeper retreat towards 25,750-25,850. The bulls remain firmly in charge, but after such a powerful sprint into record territory, the GER30 may need to pause and let its momentum catch up with its price.
