FTSE 100 Index

The FTSE 100 Index (also known as "footsie") is a market-capitalisation weighted index of the top-performing companies that list on the London Stock Exchange. The FTSE 100 is managed by the FTSE Group, and was founded in 1984. FTSE stands for Financial Times Stock Exchange and is a large cap index with a market cap of £1.715 trillion.[1] The 100 blue-chip companies come from many industries, including oil & gas, chemicals, construction, food & beverage and more, from companies like BP, GlaxoSmithKline and British American Tobacco.
