Procter & Gamble is one of the largest and best-known consumer products companies in the world. It has a family of household brands that includes Head & Shoulders, Old Spice, Gillette, Crest, Pepto Bismol, Tide, Mr. Clean, Swiffer, Pampers and Charmin. Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, the company operates in five main segments: Beauty, Grooming, Health Care, Fabric & Home Care, and Baby, Feminine & Family Care.[1]
The company, whose stock ticker is PG, was founded in 1837 by William Procter and James Gamble, two immigrants to the United States who began their operations by selling soap and candles. They then switched fully to soap during the U.S. Civil War to supply the Union army. That led to many other products, such as shampoo and laundry detergent.[2]
