Total is a large, Paris-based global integrated oil and gas company. Incorporated in 1924, the company does everything from exploration and production to refining to selling gasoline at the pump through some 15,500 service stations. The company also has a strategic partnership involving plastic recycling with PureCycle Technologies.[1] Total has more than 100,000 employees and does business in more than 130 countries.[2]
Total, whose ticker symbol is TTE, reported a full-year net loss of US$7.2 billion in 2020, compared to a positive US$11.3 billion in 2019. Operating income dropped 56% to US$6.4 billion from US$14.6 billion. The company's results were negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which sharply reduced global demand for energy products, as well as a steep drop in the price of oil to below US$20 a barrel.[3]
