BNP Paribas is the largest bank in France and in the eurozone.[1] At year-end 2020, the bank had assets of €2.5 trillion.[2] Based in Paris, the bank was founded in 1848 and was originally known as Banque Nationale de Paris. It changed its name to BNP Paribas in May 2000.[3] In addition to France, the bank does business in 68 countries. It employs more than 193,000 people, 148,000 of them in Europe, mainly in Belgium, France, Italy and Luxembourg.[4]
For full-year 2020, BNP earned €7.1 billion, which was down 13.5% from €8.2 billion in 2019. Net banking revenue declined slightly to €44.3 billion from €44.6 billion. Its market capitalisation fell to €53.9 billion at year-end 2020 from €66.0 billion the year earlier.[2] The bank's ticker symbol is BNP.
